AI tools like Large Language Models (LLMs) hold incredible potential for education, but they’re not perfect! One of the major challenges we face is the phenomenon known as "hallucination." This occurs when AI generates responses that are inaccurate or only partially correct. This isn't necessarily a flaw in the technology itself. Instead, it reflects a common misunderstanding of how these tools are intended to be used. When harnessed correctly, LLMs can generate ideas, facilitate brainstorming, and even support complex learning tasks. However, as with any tool, the effectiveness of AI relies heavily on how it is applied. Improper use can lead to misinformation, ethical concerns, over-reliance and other critical errors, especially in high-stakes environments like healthcare or emergency training, where accuracy and human interaction are essential. Architect Jack Oon’s recent experience is a powerful reminder of how critical timely intervention can be. During a futsal match last November, Jack suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunately, his friend Zaf was not a victim of the Bystander Effect! He immediately started CPR while another teammate fetched a nearby AED. Without their quick actions, Jack’s story might have ended differently. Thanks to his friends and the St John Ambulance Malaysia team, Jack received three life-saving shocks from the AED and was stabilized before reaching the hospital.
