Our big day has arrived! Though Climactic has been talked about often in the media, we have yet to officially and publicly launch our fund. Today we are doing jumping jacks as we reveal Climactic to the world. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of so many and we are grateful!

EFFICIENCY IS THE NEW E IN ESG

These past few months, I have been meeting with C level execs at big corporates around the world & one thing has become crystal clear: Fortune 500 companies are at their budgetary limits on spending to achieve sustainability as a COST CENTER. They are under pressure from their Boards & largest institutional investors to show performance increases & ROI in “climate tech” spending. While their current budgets may not be cut, any incremental spend has to come with a positive ROI. 

Several C levels execs are also genuinely concerned about their own job security if they push too hard on sustainability & warn, if they get fired, we won’t like their replacements. We need to stop telling these execs that they can do better but instead meet them where they are. 

The political winds are scary right now as we all speculate on the planetary damage of a Trump trifecta: POTUS, SCOTUS, Congress. Couple that with the pressure on DEI and ESG & basically much of the #climatetech air cover that US companies have enjoyed, may evaporate. Yes a President named Harris could mitigate much of this but given the uncertainty it would be foolhardy to rely on this outcome.

While none of these seismic shifts are a revelation, it’s still a massive wake up call for our ecosystem: 1) We must provide our enterprise customers with more exciting & demonstrable ROI paths 2) We at Climactic have reframed our climate tech mission as efficiency tech, which feels authentic to much of what we already do. We invest in founders creating solutions that both reduce emissions & are accretive to income. These goals need not be mutually exclusive. We need many approaches to financing climate tech innovation, including the amazing VCs who have engineered their funds to focus on longer term outcomes.

Climactic is supremely fortunate to have @Paul Hawken as a partner & he has been framing climate and sustainability for big corporates and basically all of us, for years. He is currently the primary climate advisor to the CEOs of Walmart & Nestlé.

SO what does efficiency tech even mean & why is it climate tech. We believe that startups focused on not just using cleaner resources but also using fewer resources per product are the answer. This applies to everything from resource extraction, manufacturing, supply chain, up & down-cycling, re-commerce…. This applies to every car you drive, laptop you use, apple you eat & of course every AI query you make. 

The alpha in efficiency generation is AI! I want to be crystal clear with this community as we enter this important and crazy election season…

Unlike some others in Silicon Valley (which I believe are a minority) - I am NOT a single issue voter  

Even though my crypto or unrealized tax gains from being a vc may be in jeopardy with the current administration, I care more deeply about preserving our democracy, women’s rights and acting on climate 

I cannot vote for a party who will leave our earth in a worse place for our children just to save some bucks

I will vote to better the collective vs my own pocketbook - go Dems!

Putting his country ahead of his ego - he is a class act - this is the kind of role model I want for my children 🙏❤️
