In a year characterized by a global slowdown in insurtech funding, India is as an outlier.

The latest "India Insurtech – Landscape and Trends" report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the India Insurtech Association  underscores the India insurtech market’s resilience in the face of adversity. Despite economic headwinds, the #insurtech sector in India saw funding levels reaching twice those of 2020.

The report also highlights significant growth in insurance penetration: 14x for life insurance and 19x for non-life insurance. However, this growth only scratches the surface of the industry’s vast potential for scale. Penetration rates for life, health, and crop insurance still hover around 30%, indicating substantial untapped innovation opportunities across various product lines, geographic regions, and customer segments.

EMVC portfolio companies Bimaplan and GramCover are featured as examples of insurtech driving innovation in end-to-end digital enablement of partners and last-mile reach and awareness respectively.
