Despite the challenging life seafarers have onboard vessels around the world, their well-being often does not get the attention it should. In addition, crew welfare and mental health has a high correlation with the performance and safety of ship’s operations. However, well-being of seafarers is currently not managed proactively with actual data and workplace engagement dynamics, but only reactively, when it is usually too late. Bigyellowfish is on a mission to change that.  

Following the approach “Your frontline affects your bottom line”, Bigyellowfish has developed a platform for workplace well-being, mental health and e-learning. Their core product is a seafarer mobile app that enables users to: 

-Reflect on and record their own feelings 
-Track and monitor sleep quality 
-Engage in well-being activities to improve their state of mind and sleep quality 
-Get psychological support to overcome challenges, such as harassment or bullying 
-Access general and company-specific training modules via short bursts of gamified reinforced learning

The collected data is then evaluated with analytics tools and easy-to-use dashboards on shore. This empowers ship owners and managers to proactively engage with seafarers on these topics, monitor the overall mental health status onboard of vessels and provide crew with direct support. 
 
Bigyellowfish will therefore play an important role in supporting the well-being of seafarers, and thus to improve safety and productivity by anticipating problems before they occur.

pFibre’s first products are plant-based films, which can be processed into green packaging solutions for a variety of industries, such as FMCG and F&B. The films are marine biodegradable and home-compostable, which ensures that they dissolve in water or on landfills after seconds, days or months (depending on customer requirements). For us, this will ultimately improve the waste management on our ships, as packaging waste can be dissolved and disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
