It's week two of meet the team! Heading up north, it's time to get to know Sona Jain, our Sydney Investment Manager!

Tell us about your background!
I’ve always loved exploring different cultures and ways of thinking. I grew up across India, Australia, and the U.S., and have enjoyed a similar level of versatility in my career, having worked in management consulting, the non-profit sector, film, wholesale diamonds, and now climate-tech. My roles have spanned strategy, operations, and finance. It’s been a wild and wandering path, but each experience has introduced me to new skills and communities and shaped my worldview for the better.

Why did you want to join Virescent Ventures?
As a lifelong vegetarian, I’ve always felt connected to nature and passionate about our role in the broader ecosystem. I appreciate Virescent’s holistic approach to addressing the climate crisis; our investments span food and agriculture, clean energy, the circular economy, mobility, and everything in-between. I was excited by the chance to help fund and support cutting-edge innovation in these areas as part of the deal team.
 
What can people find you doing outside of work?
I love the arts! Outside of work you’ll catch me at the movies or cheering my friends on at their gigs. Besides that, I’m a bit of a travel fiend – my most recent trip was to Vietnam and it was a blast.

Tell us about your background!
After growing up in Queensland, I moved to Melbourne in 2014 to study for a Bachelor of Commerce with an Honours year in Economics. I started out in consulting, where I was fortunate to work with leading global businesses in Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.  
 
Why did you want to join Virescent Ventures?
After three and a half years in consulting, I was looking for a new challenge and I had always been interested in venture capital. I love working with innovators and found what Virescent were doing in the Climate Tech space inspiring. I see decarbonisation as my generation’s greatest challenge and I’m excited to play a role in these efforts.
 
What can people find you doing outside of work?
I’ve always loved travelling, and spent most of my uni holidays (on a shoestring budget) overseas exploring different cultures. I’m also an avid cyclist and recently had the chance to combine these passions and climb up the ladder of Kotor in Montenegro!
