The largest first-time fund in European climate VC history!

This fund marks a new era for European climate tech for several reasons:

🌍 In addition to renowned, very experienced and successful LPs like for example the European Investment Fund (EIF), KfW Capital or VP Capital, we brought onboard LPs that invested in a first-time VC fund for the first time ever, like the Environment Agency's pension fund, Erste Group (Plavi), or Wiltshire Pension Fund.

🌍 Yes, pension funds invested in a first-time climate VC fund! We have thus addressed an investor group that (especially in Europe!) so far had little to do with venture capital and certainly nothing to do with first-time funds. We believe that this will set a precedent and ultimately help the entire VC and climate sector.

🌍 Bonjour Bpifrance! We are very proud to be the first first-time VC fund you have invested in outside France!

🌍 And yes, World Fund I is the largest first-time fund in European climate VC history! 

🌍 We have managed to build this record-breaking fund in the midst of the most difficult fundraising environment. This was also possible because there is a new openness among institutional investors towards climate funds with partners who have a strong track record.

Thanks to our investors, we’ve already backed numerous incredible startups with huge climate performance potential, including Planet A Foods, cylib, IQM Quantum Computers, Space Forge, ENOUGH, CustomCells , Juicy Marbles, Farmless, ecoworks and aedifion.

It’s been almost a week since we announced the close of World Fund’s first fund at €300 million - a record for a first-time European climate VC. 

We’re incredibly excited to continue the mission of backing the startups and founders with the greatest climate performance potential. We hope that this will give the whole climate and deep tech ecosystem a needed boost, and begin to help startups bridge the financing gap at series B.

We are delighted to announce that World Fund has joined Mission Zero Technologies’ £21.8 million Series A funding round!

If we’re to stand any chance of keeping global temperature rises to 1.5 degrees celsius, we must remove vast volumes of CO2 from the atmosphere, in addition to combating future emissions, as suggested by IPCC research.  

Mission Zero Technologies, led by Nicholas Chadwick, has rapidly pioneered a versatile new direct air capture technology across numerous industrial use cases, regardless of location or scale. 

Their technology has the potential to remove carbon not in the tonnes - but gigatonnes - which is critical to DAC having real climate impact.
