Interop is an early-stage venture fund specializing in blockchain primitives and protocols of the Interchain. Our involvement in the Cosmos community and proximity to builders allows us to source deals from established and emerging teams in this growing ecosystem. Cosmos and Ethereum are merging in unexpected ways.

Both ecosystems share ideals and philosophies but stem from divergent technical origins. Interop Ventures's 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙂𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙀 event at #ETHDenver delved into their mutually beneficial futures.

Cosmos can be seen as:

- the framework (Cosmos SDK + CometBFT + IBC)
- the blockchain (Cosmos Hub + $ATOM)
- the community (Cosmonauts)

At the heart of Cosmos' vision is sovereignty, expanding into the appchain vision. With IBC's activation and the arrival of new chains, #Cosmos transitioned from a Hub-centric to a network-centric model: the Internet of Blockchains (Interchain).

Ethereum's foundational principle focuses on trust-minimized, open, and censorship-resistant applications. Dedicated visionaries, numbering in the dozens, prioritize the vision over personal financial gain.

Others chose to align with the asset, favoring initiatives that drive value to the token – the embodiment of maximalism.

For chains like Noble that highly value sovereignty, aligning with #Ethereum is logical, tapping into the most decentralized and secure blockchain. The upcoming Ethos project allows Cosmos chains to utilize restaked ETH for affordable and highly liquid security.

Chains can align with Cosmos by adopting IBC and with Ethereum by integrating its security model. Aligning with Cosmos means embracing IBC and joining the Interchain.

Celestia Labs and dYdX serve as prime examples of technical alignment with Cosmos. Their ambitions, which were challenging to fulfill on Ethereum or with the #EVM, found solutions in the Cosmos SDK.

However, building an L1 is difficult, and many struggled to achieve sustenance during the bear market. Security costs, often offset by token inflation, pose a significant hurdle unless the chain achieves PMF and generates revenue post-TGE.

Ethos simplifies the launch of primary blockchains as effortlessly as layer-2s. This approach removes pressure on the token, allowing chains to postpone launches until after achieving PMF.

Alternative VMs like Movement Labs are an important part of the convergence story, offering developers safer and more scalable platforms for applications that can potentially serve billions.

Cosmos champions the modular approach.

To summarize, Ethereum integrating IBC is essential for its rollup-centric strategy. Union Labs facilitates trust-minimized communication between domains of state. Cosmos, in turn, benefits from the security provided by Ethereum.

The long-term goal is a future where blockspace is fungible and safeguarded by a swarm of validators connected through IBC.

Congratulations to the team as they approach mainnet addressing a critical yet often forgotten piece of crypto infrastructure: RPC endpoints.

Lava is a #blockchain data marketplace for #rollups and blockchains, linking data consumers and providers. Integrating the Lava SDK gives application developers instant access to thousands of high-quality RPC and indexing providers and scales with demand.

Every blockchain uses RPC endpoints and indexers. #RPC is the gateway to the blockchain, submitting signed transactions on behalf of users and fetching data like wallet balances. Indexers provide queriable real-time and historical data to decentralized applications and services.

Today's infrastructure needs to be more cohesive and complex. Developers must work with many providers, with pricing that doesn't scale with demand. As the number of rollups increases, complexity also rises, requiring developers to interact with even more providers.

Crypto's long-term vision is one of open, permisionless and resilient systems based on free market structures. Over-reliance on centrally controlled parts of critical infrastructure threatens censorship resistance and liveness. Lava aligns with this ethos.

Lava enables a decentralized data provider marketplace where users are matched with RPC providers and indexers peer-to-peer. Matching is instant, and the best providers are selected based on geography, uptime, and other QoS metrics.

#Modular rollups/chains can launch, scale and optimize the RPC layer of their stack by depositing tokens to Lava, attracting node providers, and paying them for their service. This creates a higher performance standard and greater cost efficiency. Developers use it for free.

Lava launched an incentivized RPC program rewarding node operators, shifting from the goodwill model to real incentives for providing quality RPCs. Chains like NEAR Protocol, Starknet Ecosystem, Evmos and Axelar Network are on board, with more expected soon.

Lava enables a modular network of node providers that dynamically adapt and scale to demand. In periods of heightened activity, providers can redirect resources and offer RPC and indexing services in specific ecosystems or geographies, resulting in a more efficient data market.

Lava already supports over 30 chains and targets mainnet launch in H1 of 2024. As a truly multi-chain product, Lava supports Cosmos Network: Internet of Blockchains and Ethereum as well as Solana Foundation Avalanche and Starknet Ecosystem.
