Earlier this month Compass Group Canada proudly hosted an Indigenous Cuisine Spotlight and Training for our culinary team, welcoming Chef Zach Keeshig to teach 17 of our chefs.

During the 8-hour educational session, Chef Zach taught our teams how to prepare progressive and authentic Indigenous cooking traditions and techniques.

This inspirational and educational teaching event encouraged our chefs to take these recipes and culinary philosophies back to their kitchens to share with their teams, clients and guests.

After the event, we had the chance to chat with a few of our chef participants, including Chef Eugene, Executive Chef, Chartwells:

“This event was a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively with our chefs in learning about Indigenous cuisine. Learning, and working hands on with Chef Zach gave me much more confidence in cooking Indigenous cuisine without fear of misrepresenting. Culinary is so expansive, and there’s an infinite supply of knowledge for us chefs to learn from. Nobody knows everything and so I’m grateful we can be the student from time to time and get a chance to learn, gather and share knowledge.”

We couldn’t be prouder of our #teamCompass colleagues who shone at the IKA/Culinary Olympics 2024 in Stuttgart, Germany last week.

Compass Group Finland: First place in the Community Catering category, and chef Karri Käki was a competition judge.

Compass Group Norge: Three Compass chefs joined the Norwegian national team, coming third in the National Team category. And one of those Compass chefs won gold with distinctions in his category.

Compass Group Sverige: chef Krister Dahl mentored the Swedish junior national teams and was a competition judge.

Compass Group UK & Ireland: Silver and Bronze medals for our Compass team, four Compass chefs joined the UK national senior team taking a double silver medal and one Compass chef won gold as part of the Craft Guild of Chefs UK team.

Quite the medal haul between them all!

Seeing our Compass colleagues compete on the world’s largest culinary stage fills us all with so much pride. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Chef Arjyo Banerjee, a member of our Global Culinary Forum, takes us on a culinary journey through the vibrant streets of Kolkata in our inaugural Compass Group India ‘Food Safari’.

Chef Arjyo is joined by 15 of his culinary colleagues as they discover the culinary secrets in the city's iconic dishes. The Food Safari's objective is to unfold age-old culinary practices, whilst inspiring ideas and innovative dishes for our menus and offers across India.

Kolkata is just the beginning, with further Food Safaris planned in other cities throughout 2024, and beyond.

The IKA/Culinary Olympics is the oldest, largest and most diverse international culinary arts competition in the world. Brimming with passion, professional chefs and teams work together to harmonise the perfect interaction of ingredients, preparation, flavour and presentation 🔪🏆

Taking place from the 2-7 February in Stuttgart, we’re delighted that many of our colleagues globally are flying the flag for Compass at this prestigious competition.

In the Community Catering category, we have teams from Compass Group UK & Ireland and Compass Group Finland. 

Compass Group Norge is also well represented, with Culinary Director Gunnar Hvarnes as the manager for all three Norwegian national teams, Inger Renathe Østmo as captain for the Community Catering team and Rohita Kumara as pastry artist.

And as esteemed judges of the competition, Krister Dahl from Compass Group Sverige and Karri Käki from Compass Group Finland.

Krister, who himself has won four team gold medals in previous Culinary Olympics, is also a mentor for the Swedish Junior Culinary Team. And Nick Vadis, an eight-time Culinary Olympic winner, is coaching our UK & Ireland team alongside Graham Singer.

At Compass, chefs and culinarians are integral to our success and it’s great to see their expertise being recognised on a global scale. Good luck to everyone involved!

Last week Compass Group España hosted our Woman’s Academy graduation event, celebrating the programme’s remarkable female talent 👩🎓👩🎓

Funded by the Compass Group Foundation, the programme is all about creating inclusive job opportunities for women at risk of severe social exclusion in Spain.

We’re pleased to report that from a total of 30 students, 24 have secured employment in the food sector, with 12 of those now working for Compass Group Spain.

The programme is supported by our partners at Fundación Integra España, as well as Humano360 Consultores who have helped to provide training. The programme has been endorsed by the Francisco de Vitoria University (UFV), who issued our graduates with an official “Kitchen Assistant” university qualification.

Congratulations to all of our Woman’s Academy graduates, and good luck for the next step of your career journey!
