#AsianProductions We Love: Humans create AI. AI develops sentience. AI turns on humans in an attempt to…save humanity? Cue the explosions, the over-the-top firefights — and the typical narrative tropes that plague sci-fi blockbusters. It’s not a story you’ve never heard of or seen before. Yet with The Creator, director Gareth Edwards manages to craft one of the most unique and breathtaking cinematic worlds in recent memory — despite all the previously mentioned pointers above. The Creator transports us to a world set in a not-so-distant future where the East and West are fiercely divided by their acceptance (or lack-thereof) and integration of AI. The result of this dissent is a raging war between the anti-AI United States and a fictional new super-country called ‘New Asia’ where AI lives in harmony with humans. It also turns out that ‘New Asia’ is an extremely progressive region of the world that encompasses most of East, South, and Southeast Asia. And while initial reviews of the film are a bit mixed, there’s no denying that this a truly beautifully realised and shot film that showcases how Edwards’ world building skills are second-to-none. And — despite a story rife with topical subjects on artificial intelligence and the nature of humanity, perhaps the most interesting angle to The Creator was its Asian influences. From filming across 60 locations in Thailand to featuring a fictional language called ‘New Asian’ (an amalgamation of Thai, Viet, Japanese, and other South Asian languages) and drawing heavy influence from cult classic Akira, The Creator might not be an original in the truest sense. But the movie's magnificent world-building makes it an experience worth taking part in.

A daytime mixer in a tropical oasis tucked away in the bustling city. We wanted to spend informal time with those who supported us in forging a new realm. In this reality, exceptional creators can exist, master their nano-communities, and seize opportunities beyond their wildest dreams. We are empowering the entire creative community through creating spaces such as this where traditional auteurs empower the trailblazing perspectives of tomorrow—together, forging something novel and groundbreaking. In this offering, we wanted our inner circle to be able to discover new talent, so we spotlighted two cultural shapers in Asia, each leaving an indelible mark. We gave away EYEYAH! Magazine, crafted by Steve Lawler , which educates kids and adults on contemporary themes through the accessible lens of art. Additionally, we presented a playlist by John Tee (@sideo on Instagram), a musical force influencing generations, especially the Gen-Z in Singapore, spanning genres across Asia and beyond.
