Congratulations to the team as they approach mainnet addressing a critical yet often forgotten piece of crypto infrastructure: RPC endpoints.

Lava is a #blockchain data marketplace for #rollups and blockchains, linking data consumers and providers. Integrating the Lava SDK gives application developers instant access to thousands of high-quality RPC and indexing providers and scales with demand.

Every blockchain uses RPC endpoints and indexers. #RPC is the gateway to the blockchain, submitting signed transactions on behalf of users and fetching data like wallet balances. Indexers provide queriable real-time and historical data to decentralized applications and services.

Today's infrastructure needs to be more cohesive and complex. Developers must work with many providers, with pricing that doesn't scale with demand. As the number of rollups increases, complexity also rises, requiring developers to interact with even more providers.

Crypto's long-term vision is one of open, permisionless and resilient systems based on free market structures. Over-reliance on centrally controlled parts of critical infrastructure threatens censorship resistance and liveness. Lava aligns with this ethos.

Lava enables a decentralized data provider marketplace where users are matched with RPC providers and indexers peer-to-peer. Matching is instant, and the best providers are selected based on geography, uptime, and other QoS metrics.

#Modular rollups/chains can launch, scale and optimize the RPC layer of their stack by depositing tokens to Lava, attracting node providers, and paying them for their service. This creates a higher performance standard and greater cost efficiency. Developers use it for free.

Lava launched an incentivized RPC program rewarding node operators, shifting from the goodwill model to real incentives for providing quality RPCs. Chains like NEAR Protocol, Starknet Ecosystem, Evmos and Axelar Network are on board, with more expected soon.

Lava enables a modular network of node providers that dynamically adapt and scale to demand. In periods of heightened activity, providers can redirect resources and offer RPC and indexing services in specific ecosystems or geographies, resulting in a more efficient data market.

Lava already supports over 30 chains and targets mainnet launch in H1 of 2024. As a truly multi-chain product, Lava supports Cosmos Network: Internet of Blockchains and Ethereum as well as Solana Foundation Avalanche and Starknet Ecosystem.

Whenever you hear "crypto" it is usually followed closely by words like "trustless" and "decentralized". The idea that various computers will work together in unison and independently of one another to store data, make it accessible, and order transactions in a correct sequence to secure a blockchain was one of the things that initially drew me to the nascent industry over a decade ago.

In the last year blockchain developers have taken this concept to a whole new and upgraded level. In the past, whenever computers completed these important tasks they usually had to rely on one blockchain. This meant they had to weigh pros and cons and determine which one most closely offered what they needed based on speed, security and scalability.

But in the past 12 months we have seen the concept of Modular Blockchains take off and be widely adopted across the industry. What this innovation allows is that developers no longer need to pick just one blockchain to build on. They can now mix and match, plug and play different services for every function needed for a computer to secure their blockchain or service. The result is that developers can compose a tech stack that fits perfectly to the use case they are building for.

One of these core functions is requesting information from blockchains, like the balance of a wallet or details of a transaction, or sending updates, to show a user the correct info. I met Yair Cleper and Gil B. a few years ago who were tackling this area, initially with the idea to build a network of service providers that allowed crypto apps to access this data without going through middlemen. The goal was to build something that removed single points of failure and rent seeking while maintaining the privacy of participants.

Fast forward almost 2 years and they have taken this concept to a new level. With the announcement of their $15MM fundraise they are launching Lava Network as the Modular Data Access layer for crypto developers. Beyond retrieving blockchain data, Lava now allows anyone to plug in flows of data (APIs and SDKs) across more than 30 blockchains in order for developers to quickly and permissionlessly build what Yair and his team call "whatever, whenever".

Huh? Things can get very technical very quickly but the best way to think of them is with an analogy about food. Typically you go to a restaurant because they offer a particular cuisine like pizza or Chinese. One place may sell a juicy xiao long bao while another offers a delicious Sichuan steamed fish. Your street corner deli can get you a cheesy pepperoni, while your shopping district offers a phenomenal Napoli-style funghi. You might be craving some za, your partner wants fish and you're both too lazy to drive. Lava lets you get any of these dishes, or request chefs that specialize in other cuisines — at the corner shop by your house.

The network can quickly add, update and serve in-demand APIs. It uses an open-source & modular primitive called "specs": JSON-files which define API method calls and the computational cost of each call.
