The Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC) is a 100% Black-owned Investment Company established in 1995 by the Mineworkers Investment Trust (MIT) to create an sustainable asset base for the benefit of mine, energy and construction workers and their dependants.

MIC has a net asset value of over R7 billion and over the past 28 years has disbursed over R700 million to the MIT which has in turn advanced the money to fund its social development programmes.  This has funded over 3000 beneficiaries through tertiary education, over 600 per annum with workplace skills development through the Elijah Barayi Memorial Training Centre, and facilitated poverty alleviation and reskilling for many thousands more in rural areas through the work of the MDA.

Day 2: CV and cover letter workshop

Many graduates often overlook the importance of tailoring their curriculum vitae to align with the preferences of potential employers. This lack of awareness is evident when they experience frustration due to not receiving any feedback after submitting their job applications.

Established in 1997 by the National Union of Mineworkers, the JB Marks Education Trust Fund honours the legacy of activist John Beaver Marks by funding education for union members and their families. The Trust has produced over 1812 graduates to date, primarily financed through dividends from the Mineworkers Investment Company to its shareholder, the Mineworkers Investment Trust.

Nearly three decades since our founding we have the numbers to prove that change is possible. However, we understand that no single entity can reverse decades of economic exclusion alone. That’s why we champion collaboration as the vehicle for lasting change, bringing together diverse minds and resources to create a more equitable future for all.
