Another incredible (and dare I say the best to date) Aotearoa AI Summit! Great diversity of talks - from snapshots and predictions on productivity impacts, to practical advice on adoption, how it's being used (or not) in the gaming and media industry where IP is their gold, and thought-provoking discussions on the opportunities that non-anglocentric LLMs present in preserving language and culture. The maturing of AI as a direct tool in our day to day lives has also created a very different atmosphere from previous summits. As always, it was great to catch up all the familiar faces in the industry! It’s been incredible to witness the pace of AI adoption and development globally at the SuperAI conference in Singapore! Here are some of my key takeaways from the very packed first day: Mark Souza from Microsoft highlighted the $500 million savings from adopting AI within its contact center. He emphasized the importance of creating a culture that integrates AI into workflows to extract real value, ensuring it's not something people use for just two weeks and then abandon. Vaikkunth Mugunthan from Dynamo AI stressed the importance of monitoring and compliance in enterprise-grade AI deployments. He pointed out that many organizations currently fail at the "Retrieval" part of RAG systems, which I completely agree with as it’s the hardest part of RAG right now. Clara Lim from WIZ.AI demonstrated the rapid growth of voice as a channel for AI-driven customer service. This growth makes sense as AI capabilities rapidly increase, despite voice being a familiar yet challenging channel for AI to solve. Marc Raibert from Boston Dynamics discussed the significant opportunity for robotics to serve as the interface between advanced AI models and the physical world. He introduced a new paradigm for teaching robotics new skills, traditionally done by teams of programmers. However, there is still plenty of work to be done on the mechanical and control systems side, which I agree with as a Mechatronics engineer. We may also see new form factors develop for interfacing with AI, as indicated by Pachara (Pinn) Lawjindakul from Lightspeed (e.g. smart glasses). Looking forward to day 2!
