The key points highlighted for physicians specialising in this space were:
* First-ever peptide-based immunotherapy for food allergies.
* Demonstrated safety with no hypersensitivity or adverse events.
* Clinically relevant immunological changes persisting 18 months after treatment

“PVX108 does not contain the peanut proteins which put patients at risk of serious side effects,” Aravax CSO, Sara Prickett explained to Healio. “Rather, it contains short peptides mimicking key regions from those proteins, which can be used to retrain the immune system to tolerate peanuts but are too small to trigger allergic reactions.”

Phase 2 studies are underway to assess PVX108 in children with peanut allergies. The trial, spanning Australia and the U.S., examines safety and efficacy with 12 doses over 44 weeks.

Today, we have the pleasure of announcing the successful closing of our US$42 million Series B funding round that will enable us to expand our Phase 2 trial to the United States and accelerate preparations for Phase 3.

Aravax’s lead candidate PVX108 contains synthetic peptides derived from peanut allergens, designed to safely and precisely retrain the immune system to tolerate peanuts.

Results from Phase 1 studies, which showed that PVX108 was well tolerated in peanut-allergic patients and produced clinically relevant changes to peanut immune responses, were recently published in Allergy.

Congratulations to the founders (Profs O'Hehir Robyn, Jenny Rolland, and Dr Sara Prickett) who conducted the original research at Alfred Health and Monash University, and to the Aravax management team who have worked tirelessly to progress the development of PVX108.

Yesterday Aravax CSO, Sara Prickett, presented her talk entitled "Targeting T Cells to Treat Food Allergy" to over 150 food allergy research scientists and clinicians from all corners of the world at the 2024 Food Allergy GRC in Ventura Beach, CA. 
 
Sara summarised the scientific rationale for targeting T cells in food allergy, and some of the key immunological data generated to date from studies in peanut-allergic sufferers. Those studies showed that a relatively short course of treatment with PVX108 produced long term, clinically relevant changes in the immune response to peanuts, which is very difficult to achieve with conventional approaches. PVX108 comprises small, synthetic peptides derived from the major peanut allergens which are designed to be incapable of triggering acute allergic reactions.  The data were recently published in

There has been great interest in our Phase 2 study so far. We have almost completed recruitment of Cohort 1 (adolescents aged 12-17 years old) across 5 trial centers in Australia. Aravax is now preparing to open additional trial centers in the United States for Cohort 2 (children aged 4-11 years old).
