Currently, European VCs are not investing in women or diverse founders or firms at scale. They’re missing opportunities that we believe are lucrative, growth driven, and resilient. The lack of competition gives us an advantage because as other VC firms don’t look at these founders, we get First Look. 

Conversely, for founders who are women or diverse, there is a funding gap because there is an access gap. They aren't getting through the door to pitch. This creates an unparalleled opportunity to be positioned as their first investor.

First Look was formed to solve four problems:

1. The lack of women and diverse investors in Europe;
2. Which causes a lack of investments in women and diverse entrepreneurs;
3. In order to capitalise on the $4 trillion in value currently being lost by not investing in these founders;
4. The potential for enhanced economic returns and alpha generated by investing in diversity across the different verticals.

Our name speaks to our purpose, beliefs and values. We fundamentally believe that women and diverse entrepreneurs - where for us diversity is ethnicity, sexuality, gender, or socio-economic background - have enormous potential, and the vast innovation that these businesses will create is not being economically accelerated because they're not getting a look in. We exist to empower them as they look at the world differently.
