⚡ Under current legislation, batteries are granted an exemption from paying grid fees that is set to expire in 2026. In a last-minute move in the ongoing revision of the German Energy Industry Act (#EnWG), Germany's governing coalition parties moved this back to 2029, meaning that if your battery goes online by then, it is exempt for 20 years.

🎉 We are hearing lots of sighs of relief from our battery developer and investor clients... So everything fine and dandy now? Well, not really. 

🤔 While an improvement compared to the status quo, the exemption is still only temporary, and the design of a more permanent solution how batteries should be treated with regard to grid fees will move over to the regulator, the Bundesnetzagentur, which has historically been less than supportive of batteries. Let's see how that one goes...
