Our co-founder Sumit Sinha was a panelist at Zinnov Confluence 2024, alongside Karthikeyan Natarajan, CEO, Cyient and Rajan Sethuraman, CEO, LatentView Analytics.

Addressing an audience of emerging tech services founders, he shared his views on scale up strategies for businesses aspiring to grow from $10M to $100M in revenues. He stressed on the importance of sharp focus and upfront investments in team, technology and go-to-market capabilities, even if those are at the expense of near term margins. So long as companies are pricing suitably and have strong gross margins, they can optimize overall profitability once they reach a larger scale.

I recently participated in the Venture Intelligence PE-VC Conclave 2024 in Mumbai on their panel “Focus on Private Equity”. I shared thoughts on how we at Filter Capital advise our CEOs with an emphasis on long-term value creation:

• "𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤" 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭: Actively engage with all portfolio companies, even those facing challenges, to help navigate growth strategies, and not just focus on "winners".
• 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Rigorous "private equity" diligence exercise and stress-testing of business models that allows both sides to test whether there is a shared vision about the future and adds value even if we don’t end up investing.

I recently sat with Sandeep Sinha of Oister Global for the inaugural episode of their new series "Two GP's Walk Into a Bar." Sandeep and I each shared our experiences as fund managers identifying emerging niches in the Indian private market ecosystem (fund investing in the case of Oister Global, growth-stage tech investing in the case of Filter Capital), the value of partnership (huge shout out to our respective partners and co-founders Sumit Sinha and Rohit Bhayana), and the highs and lows of the entrepreneurial journey (we too are founders after all...).

Our co-founder Nitin Nayar, spoke at the TiE Delhi-NCR conference last week in a panel entitled “Beyond Valuations- Rethinking Startup Metrics” alongside Sandeep Sinha and David Wilton of Oister Global, Raghav Ramdev of ChrysCapital and Udai Dhawan of Affirma Capital. 

Nitin urged the entrepreneurs in the audience to think of and articulate a path to value creation from Day 1 in order to differentiate themselves from others and to make investors take notice.

Our co-founder Sumit Sinha, spoke at @BECon’24 organized by Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, his alma mater. He addressed an audience of budding entrepreneurs, and stressed on the importance of building companies that make a genuine impact in their ecosystems, focusing more on the “right” PMF (Product Market Fit), not the “wrong” one (Power, Money, Fame).
