It’s no secret that 2024 has been a challenging year for the hospitality industry with high inflation and the cost-of-living crisis impacting not only the spend per head, but also the attendance of patrons across the board. There will be some much-needed reprieve as we enter the peak season, with end-of-year functions, holiday travel and the warm weather setting in, but it’s still important to focus our attention on the future; starting with a game plan and a look into hospitality industry trends predicted for 2025. Centred around technology and how it can be used to bolster the personalised nature of hospitality, there are four main trends you should embrace in 2025. In our opinion, there is no world where AI should replace human interaction, however there are ways it can assist you to streamline operations and improve overall customer experience. Embrace self-service in situations where customers would otherwise have to wait, for example in-line at a hotel check-in. Similarly using chatbots or automated messaging to answer simple queries will free up staff for more important tasks. What's important to remember with AI is that it’s not a replacement but an option to improve customer experience, it’s always important to have staff available if AI isn’t right for the customer. A great hospitality experience is often defined by the little things, like remembering a name, an important date, a favourite drink order or special room number. Collecting and storing data on your customers previous experiences is a great way of improving their next one, and will often go a long way to leaving a lasting impression. Like QR code ordering that became commonplace during the pandemic, the rise of contactless ordering in pubs and restaurants is beneficial for reducing wages linked to table service. Now this isn't right for every venue but is certainly an area for exploration. Allowing guests to customise their experience, whether that be through additions to their meals, or extra services like champagne on arrival during a hotel stay, is a great way of increasing revenue and also allowing the customer to have their own personalised experience.
