We set off to do personalization but realized that data was the blocker to do good personalization. That's why we see so many sales content around Clay, and rightfully so. 

Not only was data an issue, every AI generated "personalized" email sounded even worse than a templated email even with the right data. We think the answer is to only use AI when it's absolutely necessary, and the only way to do that well was for us to make our own email builder for our customers and thread in the prospect research data that's unique to their business. 

With the rise and rise of tools like Clay, we also noticed a glaring problem that most sales people had no idea how to take advantage of all the amazing data sources they have, and we see companies hiring Clay Experts to build their data workflows. For the past 8 months we hand held all of our customers, being LavaReach Experts ourselves, and trying to acquire data for customers without them having to figure out how to build the workflows, we are a real SaaS (Shitwork as a Service) for some of our customers that has extremely niche research requirements. 

But along the way we found overlaps, we found similarities, and recognized that some data sources could be shared for lots of sales teams, and that's why we want to give out what we've built and see what you guys come up with.

We're scaling sales for the first time here at LavaReach and I must say it exceeded my wildest expectations. 

We onboarded 2 SDRs on Monday and within 4 days, they've generated 19 meetings in total, with a 10% conversion from connect to meeting booked.

A couple of learnings:

1) A little incentive goes a long way

To make the first week fun, we offered to pay out $200 to the rep that's able to book the most meetings by EOW. Gets our team excited, a little friendly competition goes a long way. (Thanks David Hodgins for the tip!) 

2) Don't hire your first sales rep until you have something repeatable

LavaReach is bootstrapped and all of our revenue were generated through Founder led sales, from the first initial cold outreach, to closing. This way I'm familiar with all the potential objections. All I did during onboarding was hand them a playbook that had consistenly demonstrated success. 

The stability of our sales efficiency gave us the much needed confidence to scale sales. This also helps set SDRs expectations straight - they know the target is 100% achieveable, as it's backed by historical data. 

3) AI research & personalization works wonders

We don't just generate meetings through cold calls. We use our own tool to do outreach as well, which gives us another repeatable and automatic lead source. Populating custom sales intelligence directly in the CRM/Auto dialler helps reps personalize cold calls at ease, without the tedious research workflows.

Half the job is done, now it's about diligently following up to make sure prospects show up.
