𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝? 🍅 🍅 Lycopene is a carotenoid and is related to beta-carotene, which gives vegetables and fruits a red 🍅colour, it is a powerful antioxidant that is associated with tomatoes 🍅, but it is also found in watermelons🍉, grapefruits, apricots etc. Lycopene has been associated with powerful anti-ailment properties and is used as a supplement for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and to reduce inflammation 🔥. Mainstream science is yet to be fully convinced, however. Muhdo Health analyses 1000s of data points from supplements, genotypes 🧬, cg site methylation, diet 🥗, exercise 🏃♂️etc. Going through the data we have discovered a link between lycopene intake and increased methylation (lower expression) on the gene IL-6 🔥. Increased expression of IL-6, especially chronic expression is associated with heart ❤️disease, cancer, T2D, IBS and autoimmune conditions. 𝐘𝐞𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐃𝐍𝐀. 🧬 Research has found quite a significant and negative effect for females 🤵♀️with the number of hours that they watch TV 📺and their obesity risk within the Gin27Glu genetic polymorphism found in the 𝐀𝐃𝐑𝐁2 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞.🧬 This is a specific genetic variation found in the 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐚-2 𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞 🧬 (𝐀𝐃𝐑𝐁2), which is involved in how the body responds to adrenaline and noradrenaline the hormones that are associated with the “fight or flight” 🏃♂️response, increased heart ❤️rate, blood 🩸pressure, attention🧐, cognitive 🧠function and overall stress 🤯reactions. This receptor also plays a significant role in processes like 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦, 𝐟𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞. The results were extremely interesting and showed that even females 🤵♀️that didn’t really watch that much TV (<12.5 h/week), still had a high obesity risk, which interestingly wasn’t really that much different to those who were sat on the sofa 🛋️and watching TV 📺 more than 12.5 h/week. What does this suggest? Well mainly that those with a higher risk of obesity was found for females 🤵♀️carrying the 27Glu allele of the 𝐀𝐃𝐑𝐁2 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞🧬 even when they spent less than 12.5 h/week watching TV 📺.
