Nova Pangaea Technologies converts biomass such as forestry and agricultural residues into sustainable sugars and biocarbons. The sugars can be fermented into bioethanol that is used as a drop-in for sustainable aviation fuels. The biocarbon replaces coke within sectors such as the steel industry to create green steel and is carbon neutral. 
The biocarbon can also be used as a soil enhancer and is considered a carbon capture which delivers carbon negative.

This week marked a monumental achievement for the aviation sector, as the UK witnessed its first 100% SAF flight from London Heathrow to New York.

Today was a significant day for Nova Pangaea Technologies.

Project Speedbird – a joint partnership between Nova Pangaea Technologies, LanzaJet and British Airways – has secured new funding totalling £9 million from the Government’s Advanced Fuels Fund (AFF) competition.

Nova Pangaea Technologies was awarded a £7.5 million share of the funding, and our first commercial-scale production facility will be the first of its kind in the UK, using wood residues and non-food derived agricultural waste as its feedstocks.

We will play a transformational role in decarbonising the aviation sector, as well as providing local employment opportunities in Teesside.

I am delighted to announce that Project Speedbird, Nova Pangaea Technologies' joint partnership with British Airways and LanzaJet, has secured £9 million in funding through the Government's Advanced Fuels Fund competition. 
 
Nova Pangaea Technologies is the recipient of a £7.5 million share of this funding, representing another significant milestone for our company. 
 
We are thrilled that the government has recognised that Nova Pangaea Technologies’ second-generation biofuels will be a crucial part of the transition to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which will be critical in meeting the UK’s net zero targets and providing a low-carbon solution for aviation. Project Speedbird will produce 102 million litres of SAF per year and reduce emissions by 230,000 tonnes per year - the equivalent of over 26,000 British Airways domestic flights.
 
With this support from the government, and our partners at British Airways and LanzaJet, Nova Pangaea Technologies can take the next step in our journey to develop and commercialise our technology, with our biofuels helping the UK become a global leader in SAF.
 
Our first commercial-scale production facility will be the first of its kind in the UK, and will use wood residues and non-food derived agricultural waste as its feedstocks. Alongside the tangible climate benefits, Nova Pangaea Technologies will also provide significant local employment opportunities in the Teesside.

As part of Project Speedbird – a joint partnership between Nova Pangaea Technologies, LanzaJet and British Airways – we are pleased to announce that we have secured new funding totalling £9 million from the Government’s Advanced Fuels Fund (AFF) competition.

Sarah Ellerby, CEO of Nova Pangaea Technologies, said: “We are delighted to have secured this multi-million-pound investment. With support from the Government, and in partnership with British Airways and LanzaJet, we can now accelerate our next phase of development and the commercialisation of our technology, to help take the UK one step closer to becoming a global leader in SAF."

Project Speedbird will produce 102 million litres of SAF per year, which will reduce CO2 emissions, on a net lifecycle basis, by 230,000 tonnes per year, the equivalent of approximately 26,000 British Airways domestic flights.

Our partnership will produce SAF at full capacity by 2028, supporting progress towards the UK’s SAF mandate which will require at least 10% of jet fuel used by airlines to be made from sustainable feedstocks by 2030.

Today's announcement follows the multi-million-pound investments from International Airlines Group and British Airways earlier this year into Nova Pangaea Technologies and Project Speedbird, respectively.
