The proof is in the pudding.

We’ve been utilising the Output Sports  software with our client Ross over the last 7 weeks, using velocity based feedback to drive intent and trying to move both his force and velocity needles upwards a little bit.

We did an initial load/velocity profile on his Hex Bar Deadlift and Bench Press on the 1st November and then used that data to implement a training programme to not only increase his 1RM (because Ross likes to be high up on gym leaderboards) but also see if we can improve his athleticism and speed of movement. 

We re-tested this yesterday, bearing in mind the heaviest he has lifted on his bench press is 100kg last week (most weeks it’s been 85-95kg) with us giving him feedback and trying to get him to move that weight as quickly as possible, he absolutely smashed it out the park with a comfortable 120kg Bench Press yesterday. His load/velocity to profile has increased in both the Bench and Hex Bar.

What this feedback tells us is we have had large improvements at the thing Ross was already fairly good at, he can move heavy weight quite quickly. While we’ve had small improvements in the velocity side of things, this hasn’t moved up as much as we’d have liked (particularly lower body velocity).

Therefore, it’s back to the drawing board to work on how to move the velocity needle higher whilst maintaining those residual strength gains.

Output Wrapped 2023 is here!

What a huge year for the Output community with 13.5 MILLION exercises recorded. A massive increase from 2022 📈

🏋 You guys loved your #BarbellBenchPress with it being the top exercise of the year, alongside some other VBT movements and jumps!

💪 The strength of the Output community shined with nearly 90 MILLION LBS of weight being lifted across all exercises.

💥 Some seriously impressive jumping was achieved this year, with the total jump height being tracked by Output amounting to 224 Empire State Buildings in height!

🌍 The USA tracked the most exercises of any country, with the UK in second and Ireland in third.

🏅 Possibly one of the most important milestones is that 285,124 PERSONAL BESTS were hit using the Output device. This is a testament to every coach using the system, helping their athletes achieve great things!

Afgelopen weekend heb ik Exercise en Pyshiotherapy van Bram Swinnen gevolgd in Sportcenter Allround! 

Ik heb heel veel geleerd over o.a Velocity Based Training, Eccentric training, Brain training & HITT. Deze oefeningen ga ik toepassen in de praktijk.

Na deze geslaagde course kreeg ik een certificaat toegereikt en ben ik daarnaast ook nog Bram Swinnnen ambassadeur!

Been as interesting couple of months as I’ve been getting back into shifting tin after a decade away from the weight room. Using Output Sports during training has been an eye opener. Some observations from a (very uneducated) amateur. 

1. Intent is everything. It’s very hard to judge if you’re doing a quality session if weight isn’t your main criteria. I’ve consistently found I’ve  got another 15/20% in the tank in terms of quality of lift. When I’ve metrics and a benchmark to chase I can unlock that quality of exercise. Otherwise even if I think I’m giving it socks I’m invariably not. Brilliant for main sets but also central nervous system warmups (medballs slams, trap bar deadlift jumps etc) to get the most out of each session. 
2. We all love competition. It’s universal. We just often don’t have anyone close enough to our standard to compete against when we want to. I’m probably more self-competitive than against others and I’ve found chasing my own metrics really motivating. I’ve been hitting PBs on the 10th cluster set out of pure stubbornness. 
3. It’s often nice to be told what to do. Thinking can be distracting. I’m getting my program (thanks Cedric Unholz and Martin O'Reilly) delivered through our app. It takes the thinking out of my sessions and I can concentrate on not injuring myself or falling over as men of my age are prone to do. No notebooks or having to remember what weight I was on last week.
