Petronas seeks crude to boost output at Pengerang JV refinery, sources say

Petronas is negotiating to purchase Middle East crude oil for its joint-venture refinery with Saudi Aramco, the Pengerang Refining Company (PrefChem). The refinery, which has a processing capacity of 300,000 barrels per day, is set to increase its crude processing rate this month, aiming to boost imports to approximately 202,000 barrels per day, the highest since June 2023.

Hibiscus Petroleum's subsidiary, Straits Hibiscus, has acquired a 30% stake in the Block PM327 production sharing contract through a farm-in arrangement with PETRONAS Carigali. This block spans over 12,500 square kilometers and exploration activities have been ongoing since 2023, including seismic data acquisition and drilling. The acquisition is viewed positively by Hibiscus Petroleum, as it allows them to participate in the exploration efforts alongside PETRONAS.

The 10-year milestone between the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), PETRONAS and Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs) serves as a poignant reflection of achievements in streamlining safe and efficient offshore operations. The Offshore Self Regulations (OSR) Conference has emerged as a crucial arena where PACs seize opportunities to exchange expertise, share insights and embrace progress.
 
“Collaboratively, we are influencing the path of OSR and its profound impact on PACs. Our collective efforts are geared not only towards adapting, simplifying and sustaining the OSR, but also moulding the very essence of the upstream industry's future,” said Handan Ramli, Senior General Manager, Production & Operations (POM), MPM (Malaysia Petroleum Management).
 
Co-hosted by MPM and SEA Hibiscus Sdn Bhd (SEAH), the conference curated an insights-driven session with 13 distinguished energy players from JX Nippon, Jadestone, PCSB, PTTEP, Shell, EnQuest, SapuraOMV, Vestigo, EMEPMI and Petrofac, along with 35 other OSRI participants.
