REKKI was born in the kitchen. Our founders ran restaurants for over 10 years, and it was tough. So in 2016 they started building a mobile app to make the lives of chefs easier. Today REKKI connects thousands of restaurants across the world with local suppliers.

The REKKI team is made up of over 80 people from 22 different countries, working out of London, New York, Amsterdam and Lisbon. We’re a team of restaurateurs, chefs, technologists and creatives working to strengthen the hospitality industry.

Many modern day kitchens still rely on crude and primitive tools to prepare meals. Fire has been used by humans as a method for cooking food for at least 700,000 years (source: Wikipedia). And what is a pestle and mortar other than two stones you smash together repeatedly. We are still using tools that haven’t changed since the Stone Age. It’s time to modernise, and bring the restaurant into the 21st Century.

We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of our own AI, specifically designed for chefs:

ChefGPT

Early experiments have been incredibly successful. ChefGPT found a way to reduce the cooking time of a recipe by a whopping 90%. Instead of baking at 200°C for 10 minutes, ChefGPT recommended baking at 2000°C for 1 minute, saving the chef valuable time and making the kitchen far more efficient.

On Monday, the London and Amsterdam offices welcomed the Year of the Rabbit with a Lunar New Year lunch. In London, our editor Angela Hui cooked a mega Chinese buffet. Everyone donned their lucky red garms, gave each other red pockets filled with White Rabbit candy and handwritten auspicious well wishes for the new year. 恭喜发财! Gong hei fat choy!

This week, the Amsterdam team enjoyed a fantastic kimchi workshop led by our designer Bohye W.. Everyone got stuck in the fermented fun and got a chance to take jars of their spicy creations home.

“Hospitality has always pulled me back because I enjoy the creativity I find in kitchens. I love the flexibility of the industry and how it allows me to have three projects on the go, but that shouldn’t come at the expense of stability.”
