Our target pathway was successfully tested in 7 different cell types with a therapeutic index of up to 700. Our lead candidate RFB01016 was able to restore neuromuscular functions and massively extend the health and life span (+40 % median survival time after start of treatment) in naturally aged mice.

🔬 Innovative Ansätze für gesundes Altern: Die BOKU University hat eine zentrale Rolle bei der Erstellung eines neuen internationalen Konsenspapiers gespielt, das die Bedeutung seneszenter Zellen im Alterungsprozess beleuchtet. Diese Zellen, die infolge zellulären Stresses entstehen und chronische Entzündungen begünstigen, stehen im Zentrum innovativer therapeutischer Ansätze zur Bekämpfung altersbedingter Krankheiten. Unter der Leitung von Johannes Grillari , vom BOKU-Institut für Molekulare Biotechnologie, haben österreichische und internationale Expert*innen gemeinsam die MICSE-Leitlinien entwickelt. Diese Leitlinien definieren standardisierte Marker und Methoden zur Untersuchung seneszenter Zellen. Die Veröffentlichung der Leitlinien in der renommierten Fachzeitschrift „Cell“ stellt einen wichtigen Meilenstein auf dem Weg zur klinischen Anwendung dar und zielt darauf ab, die Gesundheitsspanne der Menschen deutlich zu verlängern.
