If you send text messages for your business, you need to know about these new SMS regulations that could prevent your messages from being delivered. What is happening with business SMS and why? 🤔 Mobile carriers in the US including T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon have implemented new SMS rules to try and reduce the amount of spam people receive. They are now requiring all businesses to register their phone numbers with an agency called The Campaign Registry(TCR), in order for text messages to be delivered to their subscribers. Here are the important points: - All businesses that send text messages from a local US number need to register their numbers with The Campaign Registry. - Text messages sent from unregistered numbers will be blocked by mobile carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon, thus not reaching your customers. - The rules take effect September 30, 2024. - The application requires you to provide information about your company and a description for each of the different types of messages you send (known as use-cases). KEY TIP: The best way to ensure your numbers don’t get blocked is to provide an accurate description about the type of messages you send. The carriers use AI to automatically detect if the content of your messages match up with your application, and will block your messages from reaching their customers if they suspect that it doesn’t align. The benefits of these new rules are that: 1. People should receive less spam messages, and 2. Legitimate messages from businesses like yours will get delivered.
