We’re delighted to announce that Vertical has successfully flown our full-scale electric aircraft at Cotswold Airport, reaching our target speed of 40kts (just over 40mph or 70 kmh) through a series of rigorous, remotely-piloted ‘thrustborne’ test flights. The only full-scale eVTOL aircraft in the UK, the VX4 lifted, hovered, flew and landed, powered solely by the cutting-edge battery-powered propulsion system.  

This is a very proud moment and a huge milestone for Vertical and our team, whose enormous dedication and hard work has made this possible. We’d also like to thank Civil Aviation Authority for their support over the flight test campaign, and our industrial partners for their shared belief and vision in the future of electric aviation.  
 
We are planning further flight tests over the coming months which we will continue to share, as well as developing our second prototype aircraft which will feature even more advanced technology.

3 prototypes. 300+ people. Thousands of hours of dreaming, designing, testing, building, manufacturing.

In our final approach towards the assembly of our second VX4 aircraft, we're reminded of the progress and work that has brought us to this point.

Building on our lessons from all three previous flying prototypes, AC2 will be our most advanced aircraft yet.

Vertical has been awarded £8 million ($10 million) in grant funding by the UK Government, through the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) Programme, to develop our next-generation propellers for the VX4 eVTOL aircraft.  

This R&D project is a groundbreaking step towards the next generation of propeller technologies that will operate with low noise, high loads and the highest safety standards. We’re proud to be leading a consortium of world-leading academic institutions to help us research, design and develop the propellers including the University of Glasgow, the University of Bristol and Cranfield University, and Helitune.  

The project is the fourth awarded to Vertical by the ATI Programme and brings total UK Government grant funding to £37 million ($47 million).

✈️ BUILD MILESTONE ✈️

The wing has been successfully attached to Aircraft 2, our advanced second-generation aircraft being built at GKN Aerospace’s Global Technology Centre in Bristol.

The manufacture is rapidly progressing, with further upcoming milestones to be announced.

We were thrilled to host a successful Supply Chain Community event at GKN Aerospace's GTC this past Wednesday, with a fantastic turnout of 45 representatives from 26 leading companies in attendance. 

Our senior team Jenny Harcourt, Eduardo Dominguez Puerta and David King gave updates on the progress of our prototypes, thanking our partners for their support and collaboration, with an opportunity to see the AC2 being built at the facility. 

Vertical’s chief test pilot Justin Paines outlined the exciting flight test campaigns for our second-generation prototype aircraft (AC2) and our intended plans for the Farnborough Air Show in July 2024. 

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a resounding success!

Round-the-clock action is fully underway in building our advanced, second-generation VX4 aircraft at our manufacturing facility at GKN Aerospace’s Global Technology Centre.

Key components are arriving daily, as we gear up towards spring flight tests.

The build team are expertly navigating the installation of thousands of components, all of which have been designed to produce Vertical's most effective aircraft yet.

A huge thanks to all involved, especially Fiasco Design

Today we’re announcing a $50 million of committed funding into Vertical from our Founder and CEO, Stephen Fitzpatrick. This follows a successful 2023 where the business achieved several ambitious goals and technical milestones, including flying our thrustborne test campaign, receiving our DOA from the CAA, and building a complete battery powertrain with Molicel cells at our Vertical Energy Centre.   
 
The new investment will support the development of our certification aircraft into 2025, as we near the completion of our significantly enhanced second-generation VX4 prototype that is being built at our partner GKN Aerospace's Global Technology Centre.   
 
The UK has a rich history in aviation, and with our world-class team, industrial partners and continued support from regulators we remain on track to deliver a transformational aircraft that will pioneer electric aviation. With flight tests resuming from the spring, and intended public demonstrations across the summer, we can’t wait to show the world what the VX4 can do.
