Vulcan Energy is aiming to decarbonise the transition to electric mobility, through its world-first Zero Carbon Lithium™ Project for electric vehicle batteries, and its renewable energy business.

Backed by a team of world-renowned experts in chemistry, engineering and geology, we aim to produce the world’s first, premium, battery-quality lithium chemicals with zero carbon footprint, by harnessing renewable geothermal energy to drive lithium production, without using evaporation ponds, mining or fossil fuels.

Please join us for a short tour of our Central Lithium Electrolysis and Optimisation Plant (CLEOP) in Frankfurt-Hoechst, one of Europe’s largest chemical parks and the future home of our commercial Central Lithium Plant. 
Significant progress was made from May to June, and we are swiftly working towards mechanical completion. CLEOP will convert lithium chloride from our Lithium Extraction Optimisation Plant (LEOP) in Landau into battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) for European EV batteries. CLEOP will also serve as a testing facility for our offtake partners and a training ground for our commercial production team. Once CLEOP starts production this year, Vulcan will be the first fully integrated renewable energy and carbon neutral lithium producer, a significant milestone for Europe's green mobility and energy transition. Vulcan welcomes the draft of new legislation aimed at accelerating and expanding geothermal energy capacity in Germany. The 'Geothermal Acceleration Law' aims to benefit geothermal operators, federal states, and local authorities by removing obstacles to geothermal energy development, simplifying lengthy approval processes, and reducing bureaucratic hurdles, all in support of Germany's goal to generate 10 TWh of geothermal energy by 2030.
We believe that geothermal heat and power are a cornerstone of Germany’s renewable energy future and a critical component in achieving energy security, reducing carbon emissions, and fostering sustainable economic growth. Through our integrated renewable energy and ZERO CARBON LITHIUM™ Project, we will deliver geothermal heat and energy to local communities and industry, contributing to Germany’s green energy transition.
We are excited that this legislation, anticipated to be passed by the federal cabinet in August, will pave the way for an accelerated and smoother transition towards a sustainable future for Germany.

Positive vote: The Landau City Council has voted in favour of the land development plan ‘D12’, which forms the basis for the construction of Vulcan's integrated Geothermal and Lithium Plant in Landau. Vulcan’s Project will deliver numerous benefits for the citizens of Landau and the surrounding region, which were acknowledged in the City Council's positive decision. We are delighted with the City's support for our Project, which will deliver renewable heat and power,  jobs and services. It is a win-win for the Landau region.
