Is "time to hire" just a vanity metric? 🤔 This question sparked a lot of debate at yesterday's networking lunch, where over 30 TA and HR professionals joined us at Alva’s HQ in Stockholm. Together, we explored the theme: “How to set the agenda for 2025 by engaging, learning, and leading with hiring data.” One topic that came up repeatedly was KPIs. When asked about the most important HR metrics in their organisations, “time to hire” stood out. Yet, many attendees actually viewed this metric as less valuable or even irrelevant in its pure form – especially when compared to quality-based metrics that reveal more about long-term hiring success. Interestingly, many agreed that while “time to hire” is useful for setting expectations with hiring managers, it may not be as impactful for driving strategic value within HR. Nor does it paint a relevant picture of success, especially when hiring for roles that naturally attract a limited number of candidates. So what could you do instead? At Alva, we believe that the one metric with the biggest impact is quality of hire. It is a lagging metric for hiring, but it is a leading indicator for overall company success. Linnea Bywall shared how she measures QoH through a survey filled out by the hiring manager after 3 and 5 months of onboarding, with a strong correlation between these questions and actual performance over time.
