On a whirlwind trip through Ireland, Jackie Mundt and her friends set out to see iconic sites across the island in just five days. Despite plans to cover a lot of ground, unexpected delays and Ireland’s leisurely pace led them to slow down, savor the local charm and enjoy the journey over a checklist of stops. Last week, Kansas Farm Bureau enjoyed hosting the American Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Leadership Committee in Kansas for an unforgettable fall meeting packed with leadership, learning and Kansas pride. The week included a welcome dinner at an Italian restaurant in Manhattan's Aggieville district, a day of impactful discussions with Kansas Farm Bureau leaders, farm tours and insights from inspiring Kansas women like Barb Downey, Mary Ann Kniebel, Jacquelyne Leffler, Ashley Beying, Ashley Hornberger, Ami Freeburg, Gina Montalbano-Zesiger, Nancy Thellman and Raven Naramore who shared their impacts and experiences in food and agriculture. Kansas Farm Bureau is proud to have showcased our state’s agriculture and the powerful women at the heart of farming, ranching and rural communities.

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) has opened general registration for the 2025 American Farm Bureau Convention. The convention will be held Jan. 24-29, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. “Step Up, Drive Forward” is the theme of the 106th consecutive American Farm Bureau Convention, an event that offers attendees unique insights on the policies and perspectives that will affect farms, ranches and agribusinesses in 2025 and beyond. All registrations must be completed online through Kansas Farm Bureau’s form at bit.ly/2025_afbfconvention . All tours and events must be paid for online before you will be registered for any event. The Kansas Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher of the Year Award Program is designed to recognize those YF&R members who have excelled in their farming or ranching operations and honed their leadership abilities to superiority. The contestant(s) will be evaluated on a combination of farm operation growth and financial progress, Farm Bureau leadership, as well as leadership outside of Farm Bureau. More specifically, the judges will be looking for excellence in management, scope of the enterprise and self-initiatives that have been displayed throughout the operation. This award seeks to honor individuals who have demonstrated a relentless drive for innovation and success in their agricultural practices, while also making significant contributions to their communities and the broader agricultural industry. This competition takes place during the 2025 Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference Jan. 10-12 in Manhattan. 🏆 The winner of the YF&R of the Year award takes home $700 and an expense-paid trip to compete in the national contest at the 2026 AFBF Annual Convention in Anaheim, Calif.

Congratulations to Ellis County Farm Bureau member and Women’s Leadership Chair, Laura Haffner, for being named one of American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) Grassroots Outreach (GO) Team members of the year. Laura has played a critical role in advocacy efforts by participating in the AFBF Labor Fly-In. During her visits with representatives from the White House, Senate and House Agriculture Committees, and key congressional leaders, she focused on addressing the longstanding labor shortage affecting the agricultural industry. AFBF Communications staff coordinated media interviews during the Labor Fly-In, and Laura was featured in prominent agricultural outlets such as Agriculture of America, AgriTalk and DTN/Progressive Farmer. She has also provided testimonials for iFarmiVote and shared her experiences in a GO Team testimonial. Laura was a member of PAL Class 11, AFBF’s prestigious Partners in Advocacy Leadership (PAL) program. Two other individuals from Georgia and North Carolina were also GO Team members of the Year. AFBF’s GO Team was created to equip members with skills necessary to engage effectively with media and lawmakers on important agricultural topics.
