Financial crime is growing in scale and pace. No single country or financial institution can face this issue on its own. That’s what the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) ’s forum in Vienna on 4-5 April is all about, under the leadership of T Raja Kumar . How to better tackle global fraud? That was the subject of today’s summit in London. As banking industry we are very aware of the devastating effects global fraud and scams have om consumers and society. We have taken huge measures to tackle fraud. Social media platforms and telecoms should join efforts to identify potential fraud and fraudsters. Law enforcement has an important role to play as well. The Summit brought all parties to the table, and the discussion was fruitful. Thank you Robert Wigley OStJ, BSc, Hon DBA, FCA from UK Finance for your leadership in this. The IBFed has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Union of Arab Banks , a regional Arab organization headquartered in Beirut, created under the umbrella of the Arab Organization for Administrative Development, establishing a regional Arab union that operates within the framework of the unions emanated from the League of Arab States. The Memorandum of Understanding aims to facilitate exchanging information about regulatory developments in various jurisdictions, discussion of views and best practices, advocating cooperation at global level and with international organizations, and conducting regular dialogue meetings between the IBFed and the UAB. Hedwige Nuyens , CEO of the IBFed welcomed the signature of the MOU as an opportunity to strengthen the relationships between the 2 organisations.
