This week, we hosted an insightful panel with New Work experts Allie Beardsley , Ryan Lott , Evgeniya Waldner moderated by Katja Hamler on the evolving nature of hybrid work. Here’s what stood out: 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝘀 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗸 Allie emphasized that hybrid work must be viewed as a core business strategy, not merely a benefit for employees. For leaders, this means rethinking how their organizations function to align with this new reality, ensuring that hybrid setups support productivity and growth. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗘𝗿𝗮 For Evgeniya, while work shouldn’t be viewed as a "family," a strong sense of community within organizations is key to fostering belonging and socialization. Why should companies care? This sense of connection fuels collaboration and job satisfaction, leading to more effective teamwork and higher talent retention—ultimately saving companies significant costs and boosting long-term success. 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽 Ryan doubled down on how leadership mistakes can occur when hybrid work is approached with skepticism, particularly when leaders assume that employees will misuse the freedom that hybrid setups provide. This mindset is rooted in a lack of trust, where leaders believe that without constant oversight, productivity will suffer. However, this assumption can create a culture of micromanagement and surveillance, which not only undermines employee autonomy and engagement but also stifles creativity and innovation. To avoid this pitfall, leaders must shift their focus from control to outcomes, providing clear expectations, encouraging open communication, and offering the tools employees need to succeed. When trust replaces skepticism, employees feel empowered to take ownership of their work, leading to greater productivity and stronger collaboration. 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝘀 (𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼) 𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 As Allie noted, hybrid work isn't just about flexibility; it’s an inclusion issue. For working parents, individuals with disabilities, or those with caregiving responsibilities, rigid office schedules can be prohibitive. Hybrid models allow for greater inclusivity, providing a way to meet the needs of diverse team members and creating a more supportive workplace. This transformation has immense potential for companies. But for hybrid models to truly thrive, they need thoughtful leadership and intentional design, built on clear alignment around the company’s vision, leadership structure, and culture.
