The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a United States-based 501(c)(3) non-profit international environmental advocacy group. It combines the power of more than 3 million members and online activists with the expertise of some 700 scientists, lawyers, and other environmental specialists to confront the climate crisis, protect the planet's wildlife and wild places, and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities.

NRDC was founded in 1970 by a group of law students and attorneys at the forefront of the environmental movement. NRDC lawyers helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws. Today, our staff of more than 300 lawyers, scientists and policy experts -- a MacArthur "genius" award-winner among them -- work out of offices in New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Beijing.

The New York Times calls us "One of the nation's most powerful environmental groups." The National Journal says we're "A credible and forceful advocate for stringent environmental protection."

Following the conclusion of COP28 in Dubai last month, our President and CEO, Manish Bapna, reflected on the climate talks in a blog published by Economist Impact .

Roughly every five years, Congress revises a legislative package that sets the stage for food and farming policy in the United States. This is called the Farm Bill, and helps us to determine what we grow, how we grow it, and funds several programs for farmers as well as food access for low-income families.

The Farm Bill is one of the most critical pieces of legislation that shapes our food system and its environmental impacts, such as air and water pollution,” says Allison Johnson, senior attorney in NRDC’s People + Communities Program.
