Global Deal Case Study 4 : Achieving effective human rights due diligence for labour rights through the International Accord.

After two significant industrial incidents in Bangladesh's garment and textile sector – the Tazreen factory fire (2012) and the Rana Plaza factory collapse (2013) – a resounding call for safer workplaces echoed across the industry.

In response, in 2013, brands, retailers, and trade unions joined forces to ink the Accord on Fire and Building Safety. Today, the Accord stands strong with 175 signatories, including numerous #GlobalDeal Partners like H&M Group, Carrefour, ICA Group, Lindex, IndustriAll Global Union, and UNI Global Union.

This collaboration serves as an example of how social dialogue can drive human rights due diligence in labour rights by proactively addressing specific risks in the garment and textile supply chain.

New internship opportunity: Great at research and intelligence-gathering? Interested in reputational risk due diligence? 

The OECD’s Reputational Risk Unit is looking for an intern!

This is an excellent opportunity to help start up a new unit and learn about due diligence and reputational risk management processes in a fast-paced international organisation. 

Depending on ongoing projects, experience and skills, tasks will include:

•	Background research and intelligence-gathering on potential donors and partners.
•	Market trends analysis and horizon-scanning for reputational threats and challenges.
•	Support in the reporting of OECD third-party engagement and the benchmarking of reporting practices by businesses and other international organisations.
•	Support in setting up this new Reputational Risk Unit (technical, workflows, etc.).

Background & Qualifications:

•	Academic background, interests, experience: international relations, international law, risk and crisis management, corporate governance.
•	Languages and level of fluency: Native English speakers; bilingual proficiency is desirable.
•	Desired skills: Great at research and analysis; close attention to detail; strategic, proactive and future-focused thinking; excellent interpersonal and organisational skills; skilled at content-management process and workflow implementation.

Key Information:

•	Dates: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, ideally for 4-6-month internships.
•	Internship location: Paris, Boulogne, partially remote.
•	Financial arrangements: 1,000 EUR/month (French internship standard).
•	Student status: In order to have an internship at the OECD, you must currently be enrolled in a university, so that an official Memorandum of Agreement can be signed.
