Reserve is a cryptocurrency project that aims to create a stable and non-inflationary form of money. They have developed the Reserve protocol, which allows anyone to create a token backed 1:1 by a collection of other tokens without writing any code. The protocol is currently best used for rolling DeFi assets together to create yield-bearing USD stablecoins and other composite assets. The company envisions a future where many competing asset-backed currencies exist, potentially replacing the fiat standard.

Reserve is a free, permissionless platform on Ethereum mainnet to build, deploy and govern asset-backed currencies referred to as “RTokens.” RTokens are always 1:1 asset-backed, allowing for permissionless minting and redeeming on-chain by users without the need for any middlemen. Overcollateralization is provided by RSR governance token stakers. Each RToken can have an entirely different governance system and is governed separately by ecosystem stakers. The Reserve Protocol launched on Ethereum mainnet in Oct 2022 and completed its fifth audit in Feb 2023.

The Reserve protocol enables the creation of a new kind of money that holds long term value better than fiat currency.

The new brand is an expression of patience, focus and craft - a doorway into breakthrough technology with real, tangible impact. Core to new brand is Reserve Blue (#0151AF). This color is the basis of the new Reserve look. The blueprint styling is indicative of how Reserve aims to be a baselayer for economic activity, enabling global technological advancement. The hand-drawn nature of the artwork expresses the craft and human care that went into the protocol's creation, as well as the real-world potential impact. Each vignette is a possible future enabled through inflation-proof, stable currency.

Next week, RPay will transition Reserve app users from RSV to the decentralized 1:1 asset-backed eUSD stablecoin 🔥 

As we start saluting RSV for a job well done, let's look into why RPay is ready to use the Reserve Protocol, and what happens next.

Background:

For the last three years RSV, our "proto-RToken", has gained traction across LATAM, giving real, non-speculative, generally non-crypto users the ability to spend and save.

That's more than half a million people using the Reserve app, and $5.7 billion in cumulative volume.

The protocol is available for anyone to use, but we have long been excited about it being ready for RPay.

Last weekend:

During the fall-out of Silicon Valley Bank collapse last weekend, USDC temporarily lost the peg, and the protocol went through its first stress-test - a weekend Black Swan!

The protocol automatically put eUSD's USDC-based collaterals into "iffy" status, and 24 hours later, without any intervention from the team, swapped into eUSD's emergency basket (in this case USDC to Tether).

The result: eUSD (and eUSD's users) seamlessly, transparently, on-chain restored, a day ahead of the market.

Next up:

With a real-world test of the protocol, RPay is now ready to use eUSD in the Reserve app.

So RPay will continue giving 100,000s of people and merchants the ability to use dollar-pegged, digital, stable currency in an ever-growing list of countries.

And from next week, it will come with the robustness, transparency, multi-asset, governance superpowers of RTokens!
