I am thrilled to announce the exclusive launch of a fantastic collaborative special edition gin with Fortnum & Mason , that showcases our unique approach to cask maturation of cask first, liquid second. We develop the liquid to marry to the cask, ensuring perfect harmony and marriage of aroma and flavour, where the liquid teases out the best of the cask, creating an amazing depth of flavour not possible in unaged spirits and select botanicals that accentuate the aromas and flavours, turning the cask itself into a botanical partner. This is the final port destination on an adventure that started in the majestic cellars of Niepoort in Vila Nova de Gaia a little over 6 years ago when developing the third release in our ever-popular Salcombe Distilling Company Voyager Series. In addition to nosing and selecting the Colheita 1996 casks that we would use for our Voyager Series ‘Guiding Star’ release, I picked out a few other very special casks for future releases, including an American oak cask at least 80 years old, that contained Niepoort’s stunning Moscatel do Douro. The cask told tales of apricots, candied citrus and spiced nuts, inspiring us to create a gin that would harmonise with its unique character. Aged for over 4 ½ years at our waterside distillery in Salcombe, this gin retains the freshness of the day it was first distilled, with added layers of sweet apricots, almonds and a rich nuttiness reminiscent of Christmas fruit and nut cake. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Oscar Dodd , the Buyer at Fortnum & Mason , who were one of the first retailers to list ‘Start Point Gin’ back in 2017. Oscar commented "I have viewed Salcombe’s ascent with great interest; when Angus pitched the idea of creating an exclusive spirit for Fortnum & Mason - that would showcase their innovative approach to cask matured gin - I was keen to explore further. By creating unique gin recipes for aging in the various and interesting casks he procures, Angus produces liquids that call into question what you though you knew about gin. This partnership also celebrates our 20 year long relationship with Niepoort, with this limited-edition gin having matured in a cask that previously held their divine Moscatel do Douro, beautifully marrying floral citrussy notes with nuts and spice.” #Fortnum &Mason #SalcombeGin #prestige #luxury #Salcombe #worldclass
