The company has strategic partnerships with Contemporary Amperex TechnologyCo., Limited on battery materials solutions, including cathode active materials and battery recycling. Management changes at BASF: Dr. Markus Kamieth will succeed Dr. Martin Brudermüller as CEO in 2024, effective at the end of the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting on April 25, 2024.
The Supervisory Board has appointed Anup Kothari, currently President of the Nutrition & Health division, to the Board of Executive Directors effective March 1 and Dr. Katja Scharpwinkel to the Board of Executive Directors and Industrial Relations Director effective February 1, 2024. She is currently President of the Europe, Middle East, Africa region. Katja Scharpwinkel succeeds Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner who will not extend her current contract which runs until January 31, 2024.
The Supervisory Board has extended the contract of Michael Heinz, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, until the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in 2026.

The World Economic Forum has published a white paper on how to tackle Scope 3 emissions, which account for more than 70% of industries’ greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. BASF has contributed with a case study, showing the benefit of industry-ecosystem collaboration in the development of harmonized reporting standards for product carbon
footprints. Building on ISO and the GHG protocol, BASF has partnered with peers and customers to develop the PACT Pathfinder Framework and Together for Sustainability (TfS) PCF Guideline, which are both instrumental to achieving emission transparency and comparability in supply chains. Based on such frameworks, BASF has been determining and exchanging the PCF of thousands of products, engaging hundreds of suppliers and customers with further scale-up ambitions in 2024.
This white paper, produced by the World Economic Forum’s Industry Net Zero Accelerator initiative, highlights 12 emerging opportunities, illustrated with real-world case studies, to drive the net-zero transformation of global value chains with “no excuses”.

Over 50 projects across 20 countries – an impressive achievement of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW). Nicholas Kolesch recently updated BASF employees during a meeting in Ludwigshafen. Discussions highlighted tackling plastic waste leakage, with innovative solutions presented by BASF, such as Mobile NIR Spectroscopy solution from trinamiX GmbH. The Alliance, co-founded by BASF in 2019, focuses on infrastructure development and investment to enhance plastic waste collection and management globally. An example involves supporting South Africa's African Reclaimers Organisation (ARO), improving conditions for waste pickers and diverting close to 2900 tonnes of plastic waste from the environment by the end of Q3 2023. The mission to end plastic waste leakage remains significant, urging collective action in this crucial journey.
