Proper Drinks, Crafted With Nature 🌱 | Belvoir Farm nestles deep in the English countryside in the idyllic Vale of Belvoir, where we’ve been making fruit cordials and sparkling drinks since 1984, pressing fresh fruit and infusing flowers to mix with spring water.

Renowned for our elderflower drinks, we still use the same elderflower recipe developed by co-founder Mary Manners almost 40 years ago. 

Today, we have expanded our beverage range to include a wide range of flavours and formats, ranging from Cordials to Sparkling drinks many of which have won multiple awards.

DEFRA's new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) levy is designed to drive innovation in recycling but is instead a step back for the environment and consumers’ health, and detrimental to the natural drinks industry ♻️ Here’s why…

The future of natural drinks is at risk due to the new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) levy imposed by DEFRA. Our Managing Director, Peverel Manners , spoke to BBC News yesterday on the issue (watch the coverage below ⬇️) The levy is designed to improve innovation in recycling by asking producers to pay the full net costs of managing and recycling the packaging waste they produce. However, it instead will drive consumers to buy plastic and may threaten glass producers’ long-term. The guidance is that it uses a hybrid weight & volume-based approach which is a huge disadvantage for glass producers like us, due to the weight of our packaging. The levy will also not be phased, meaning we will take on all the costs in year one. This will drive costs up, which can only be passed on to consumers which will damage demand and therefore many SMEs very existence. Whereas producers of soft drinks in plastic bottles or cans will be exempt until 2027 because they have lobbied to be covered by a different deposit scheme. This is both outrageously unfair and anticompetitive, and is a step back for the environment and consumers health as it will drive them towards cheaper, poorer quality and unnatural drinks in plastic. We use glass as it is the best way to produce natural soft drinks as, unlike plastic, it is not permeable so it seals in the natural goodness and taste without artificial preservatives. Glass is also infinitely recyclable allowing us to conserve resources and minimise the environmental burden of producing new materials. Our bottles are currently c.55% recycled glass! We urge DEFRA to think again.

When is squash not squash, and what’s the difference between a squash and a cordial? That’s the question that Kate Quilton asked on this week’s “party episode” of Channel 4 Food Unwrapped. Kate visited Pev at Belvoir Farm HQ to see our delicious cordials being made. He showed her how our Raspberry and Lemon Cordial is created, using natural ingredients.
