In case you missed last week’s announcement ⬇ We’ve partnered with The Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, to expand tech-enabled virtual wards across the region. There are currently more than 220 virtual ward beds in Humber and North Yorkshire. The new technology will allow even more patients to be cared for and monitored in their own homes. Those on the service are given medical devices such as blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters and thermometers and shown how to take readings. The government launched the Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO) yesterday to speed up public access to new technologies, including digital health. The government said RIO will work closely with departments including the Department of Health and Social Care to remove obstacles and outdated regulations to the benefit of businesses and the public, unlocking the power of innovation to generate tens of billions of pounds for the UK economy in the coming years. Science secretary Peter Kyle told the FT: “If we get this right, we could be the seed that starts to change the culture of regulation in our country." Thank you for the feature Open Access Government . **North West Anglia NHS Trust use wearable health devices within its virtual ward.** As NHS trusts across England are rolling out virtual wards with various models and approaches, North West Anglia NHS Trust is pioneering the use of wearable devices for patients admitted to its virtual ward. The wearable devices are Bluetooth-enabled and use state-of- the-art sensors to continuously monitor vital signs and provide actionable insights on patient care. Devices seamlessly connect to the patient’s smartphone, which uses the Inhealthcare app to transmit readings securely to the trust’s clinical team in real time. Ward manager Jennifer Donnelly explained: “We’ve received overwhelmingly good feedback from patients using the devices. They wear them comfortably on their chests, allowing us to monitor their NEWS2 observations in real-time. This includes physiological measurements like respiration rate, oxygen saturation, systolic blood pressure, blood pressure, pulse rate, level of consciousness, and temperature.
