Ever wondered what drives an aggressive state in the brain? 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 et al. from 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗝. 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻's lab at Caltech has some fascinating answers! Published in Cell, this study uncovers how neuropeptide signaling in the hypothalamus shapes aggression. Siegelbaum lab at Columbia University have uncovered new insights into how the hippocampus processes social fear. By employing advanced techniques such as 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝘅'𝘀 #𝗻𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮 , they revealed the critical roles of the CA2 and CA1 regions in distinguishing social threats from safety.
