Last December 22nd, the #DataAct was officially published at the Official Journal of the European Union, establishing a general framework for the use of data from connected devices.

Even though the Data Act constitutes a key milestone for the users' rights, it is not sufficient when it comes to #mobility. Why do we need a sector-specific regulation on #vehicledata ?

Because we want to preserve the free choice of the consumers and the transparency on the data generated by the use of vehicles, the resources and functions of vehicles. A sector-specific regulation would guarantee services interoperability, allow an effective users’ freedom of choice and offer immense potential for safer, smarter and more affordable mobility.

Moreover, such a regulation will also be key for the development of a European innovative connected mobility value chain and European competitiveness.

That's why today, ETRMA, represented by Ragunath Barnerjee, VP Data & Solutions of Bridgestone EMEA, accompanied by the representatives of ADAC, Ayvens, MACIF, and the CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers, led a press conference in Brussels. The goal? To call on the European Commission to urgently bring forward long-planned #legislation on access to in-car data. 

Fully aligned with the messages conveyed by the speakers today, Michelin advocate a sector specific legislation on access to vehicle data, functions and ressources.

We are proud to adopt the recommendations of the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

Through these recommendations, we aim to contribute to the global targets defined at the COP15 on biological diversity in Montreal last December on nature-related risks and opportunities.

This commitment is yet another step on Michelin’s All-Sustainable roadmap. Indeed, Michelin’s action towards #biodiversity is not new as the first objectives within the #Act4nature international initiative were set in 2018 and have been continuously reinforced since then.

This is being achieved through:

➡️ The Michelin Ecological Reserve in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Over the past 20 years, the reserve has become one of the best-protected areas of the Atlantic Forest, in one of the world's most endangered environments, and is now home to a booming wildlife population, with over 2,000 species of flora and fauna recorded. 🍃


➡️ For over 30 years, Michelin has been committed to reducing its environmental footprint throughout its value chain. It has adopted a demanding and holistic approach based on the Life Cycle Assessment for the Group’s products and services, an ecodesign approach, public goals, and commitments. 🌍

Michelin broadens its eRetail footprint with the acquisition of Tyroola.com.au, Australia's fastest growing online retailer for tires and fitting services.

The development of e-commerce is a structural trend in the tire market with 2 out of 3 consumers going online for their tire search, while more and more consumers complete their tire purchase online. After investing in Canada, Egypt, France, Italy, South Africa and the UK, Australia is the seventh country that we invest in to expand our eRetail footprint. Hence this strategic acquisition will allow the Group to further strengthen its knowledge on consumer behavior during the purchasing process.

We aim at continuing to deliver the best possible experience to our customers, from online information seeking, right up to tire fitting.

Did you know? 

We are a worldwide leader in connected tire. 

With 150,000 tires on the market, we are today the world’s foremost supplier of connected tires for production cars. In particular, these tires have been homologated by Tesla for the Model S Plaid and the Model X.
 
The tires are also approved for vehicles produced by the English car manufacturer CHARGE CARS, like the brand new fully electric 67.
 
The connected tire is a technology that Michelin has mastered for more than fifteen years. It provides information about its brand and dimensions, making it possible for instance, to much more precisely estimate the battery range of an electric vehicle based on these data and an understanding of the rolling resistance of each tire, or allow car makers to adjust vehicle settings to the tire in order to enhance drivers’ mobility experience.
 
This is yet another example of Michelin's ability to innovate in order to meet the challenges of tomorrow's mobility.

In Mexico, many children from preschool to high school go through many obstacles on a daily basis simply to get to school.

And it is not uncommon for children to walk several hours a day to access education.

That’s why we set up the initiative “Together We Go Further”, in alliance with the association Un Kilo de Ayuda A.C.. The ambition? To provide children with new bikes and helmets so that they can get to school faster and safer.

Part of the proceeds from our tire sales in Mexico in December went towards the purchase of bikes and safety equipment.

This year, 1,500 children will be able to benefit from this operation.

This initiative reflects Michelin's ongoing global commitment to children and safe mobility.

Michelin and its airless technology won the Equipment of the Year category at last night's Automobile Awards! 
 
The ceremony took place at the prestigious Automobile Club de France, and once again rewarded our UPTIS prototype, one of the AIRLESS applications developed by Michelin, which represents a real breakthrough innovation in the world of tires.
 
Just imagine! This innovation eliminates the risk of punctures and rapid loss of pressure, while reducing environmental impact.
 
The UPTIS prototype demonstrates Michelin’s leadership in AIRLESS technologies, underpinned by the Group’s expertise in high-tech materials and in particular composites.

Towards bio-assimilable tire wear particles? 

Yesterday, Michelin, the CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique and the Université Clermont Auvergne inaugurated the "BioDLab" laboratory, dedicated to the study of the degradation and biodegradation of tire rubber. 

The aim? To gain a better understanding of the process by which tires deteriorate as a result of their use, and to develop technical solutions to the environmental problems posed by wear particles resulting from contact between the road and the tire. 

The 4-year joint laboratory's mission is to develop tools that will enable concrete solutions to be found to make wear particles bio-assimilable by the environment.

Taking into account the environmental impact of our activities is an integral part of our strategy. For several years now, we have been committed to reducing the abrasion of our tires, drawing on our expertise in materials. This commitment has already enabled us to reduce tire wear emissions by 5% between 2015 and 2020.

Symbio, an equally owned joint venture between Michelin, FORVIA & Stellantis, inaugurates its first gigafactory SymphonHy, Europe's largest integrated site producing hydrogen fuel cells!

With its capacity for innovation and industrialization, and an annual output of 50,000 fuel cell systems, SymphonHy is paving the way for large-scale production, accelerating the roll-out of competitive, high-performance hydrogen-powered transport, and contributing to the energy transition and the ambitions of Europe to move towards net zero.

SymphonHy is part of HyMotive, a strategic €1 billion project to develop disruptive technology, supported by the European Union and the French Gouvernement. 

For us, this new stage in Symbio's development is a collective response to the challenge of low-carbon mobility. We have joined forces with Forvia and Stellantis to make this ambition a reality, each partner bringing its own complementary expertise to bear on the energy transition.

The grand opening will take place on December 5, hosted by Symbio's CEO Philippe Rosier, in the presence of Patrick Koller (CEO FORVIA), our CEO Florent Menegaux and Carlos Tavares (CEO Stellantis).
