Moving-Mast reach trucks are commonly used in the food distribution and cold storage industries. Their specs are sought after for particular applications: they offer ergonomic benefits and performance capabilities that differ from the “common” reach truck. More importantly, most Moving-Mast trucks can be built with a heated cabin, which is very appreciated by the operators! Stromcore recently commissioned a fleet of Li-Ion batteries for Congebec Inc. ’s state-of-the-art Cold Storage DC in Montreal. The batteries will operate 24-7 in and out of the freezer for the next 10+ years! Out with the old, in with the new! This loyal customer began his electrification journey over 3 years ago and recently took possession of his first electric Hyster clamp truck at one of his corrugated facilities. When Stromcore’s JS Genest recently asked for their honest feedback on the performance of electric forklifts vs their old propane lifts, the client answered: “At first, the operators hated the change as they had to adapt, and now, a few months into it, they think it’s the best thing that happened to them since they started working here.” This answer was to be expected: transitioning to electric forklifts means change, which takes time. Operators must adapt their routine by charging at each break opportunity and operating a slightly different machine. But, once they embrace the new technology and adjust their habits, they will reap the benefits of a less rumbly and noisy machine that generates no heat nor smoke and is much smoother to drive. The client continued and added: “One of our operators consistently had back problems working on the propane lifts because of the vibration and changing propane tanks. Since we transitioned to electric, the operator has started feeling better and even stopped seeking treatment. " Although more infrequent, this feedback was also to be expected.
