Woamy is an Aalto University spin-out formerly known as the Foamwood project. They create innovative biomaterials, such as foam derived from wood and agricultural waste that is reusable and biodegradable. Their foam is superior in strength and lightness compared to other biofoams, making it a perfect replacement for harmful plastic foams.

We make bio-based, recyclable and biodegradable foam with a mission to replace all harmful plastic foams. Our foam can be made from organic fibres, from wood or agricultural waste and our technology makes the foam superior in strength and lightness. In addition to this our production process is easily scalable.

Inspired by nature and based on a decade of research Woamy, our Aalto University Spin-off, formerly known as Foamwood, is now ready to make the foam industry sustainable.

We are starting with protective packaging, but the application possibilities are endless, from laminated boards to construction insulation.

2021-2022 we sponsored a team of Product Development Project -students and as a result they helped us to upscale our production line from lab scale to a garage scale machine, which made our production 50 times faster. 🚀 

As a bonus the collaboration also gave us one founder and 2 amazing employees. In fact we were so happy with the collaboration with PDP that we’re sponsoring a new talented team again this year and we’re very excited to see what comes out of it, so stay tuned. 🤩

Happy holiday season from our Woamy team! ✨ This year has been quite exciting and eventful for us and we want to thank everyone who has been part of our journey so far.

Here are some highlights from this year:

1. We founded our sustainable foam company in June 2022. That’s when the Aalto University’s research project Foamwood became Woamy and we moved to our own office in Otaniemi, Espoo.

2. Foamwood project’s researchers that are now part of Woamy’s founders and advisors won the Aalto University’s School of science award for our edible styrofoam replacement. 🎉 Thank you Aalto University for the honor!

3. We sponsored a Product Development Project team and as a result they helped to upscale our production line from lab scale to garage scale machine and as a bonus the collaboration gave us one founder and 2 amazing employees. In fact we were so happy with the collaboration with PDP that we’re sponsoring a new talented team again this year and we’re very excited to see what comes out of it. Thank you Aalto Design Factory staff and students for the inspiring work!

4. We joined Kiuas Accelerator program one of the top accelerators in Finland. Thank you Kiuas for all the support and all the insights over the 10 weeks. We are happy to be part of Kiuas 2022 Alumni!

5. We had a successful participation in Fiban Pitch Finland competition. Thank you Finnish Business Angels Network (FiBAN) and OP for such an amazing day.

6. We attended Slush & Nordeep Nordic Deep Tech Business Summit among other exciting events and got many new connections and potential future investors, partners and customers.

7. And more exciting news is coming up very soon, so stay tuned. ☺️
