Norfolk Southern Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the rail transportation of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods in the United States. The company transports agriculture, forest, and consumer products comprising soybeans, wheat, corn, fertilizers, livestock and poultry feed, food products, food oils, flour, sweeteners, ethanol, lumber and wood products, pulp board and paper products, wood fibers, wood pulp, scrap paper, beverages, canned goods, and consumer products; chemicals consist of sulfur and related chemicals, petroleum products, chlorine and bleaching compounds, plastics, rubber, industrial chemicals, chemical wastes, and sand; metals and construction materials, such as steel, aluminum products, machinery, scrap metals, cement, aggregates, minerals, clay, transportation equipment, and military-related products; and automotive, including finished motor vehicles and automotive parts, as well as coal. It also transports overseas freight through various Atlantic and Gulf Coast ports; and provides commuter rail passenger transportation services and operates an intermodal network. As of December 31, 2021, the company operated approximately 19,300 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia. 👀 A look inside our Juniata Locomotive Shop, one of the largest locomotive repair facilities in the industry. 🚂 🔧

Over the past year the Craft Mentors have been busy on Norfolk Southern Coastal Division. From getting Conductor Trainee's(CT) through the rigorous training program to become marked up conductors, facilitating peer to peer meetings with conductors with two years or less seniority, to speaking with newly hired CT's at the training center in McDonough GA. We have had the honor of having the EVP & COO Paul Duncan , VP of Transportation Joe Gioe , VP of Field Engagement Floyd Hudson, AVP of Performance Excellence Michael Belt, General Manager Operations Transportation- Southern Region Brian Stanley, Coastal Division Superintendent Mike Davis and many others stop by Inman Yard and give some great round table knowledge and have open forum discussions on ways to make this company the most desirable Class 1 railroad to work for. Rather it be a newly graduated CT's or the most senior employees on the terminal, all feedback is necessary to drive the culture change for the next generation. As the year comes to an end, we look to our President and CEO Alan Shaw envision of "A Better Way Forward", 2024 has a lot in store. 

Senior Training Coordinator B MOORE has definitely put together "The A Team" with myself,  Shannon Goins, Kelvin Hill, Britt Holloway, Anthony Lane, and Bobbie Pitts to ensure that these new hires embarking on their railroad careers are getting top notch guidance and training.

I’m especially thankful for those working throughout this holiday season, like our team at Inman Yard in Atlanta. I had the pleasure of visiting with them on Christmas Eve to thank them in person for their hard work and dedication. I am inspired by their commitment to Norfolk Southern and our customers.

Each December, Norfolk Southern railroaders work with our customer, J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., to support Wreaths Across America (WAA). WAA’s mission is to honor every military grave with a wreath during the holiday season. 

This year, we proudly delivered 300,000 wreaths that will make their way to locations across our 22-state network. I’m honored to work alongside the 2,000 veterans at Norfolk Southern, and to join with them in remembering the brave men and women who so selflessly served our country.
