They are joined by elated polluters around the world. For every business whose profit depends on the toxic contamination of food, air, water and people with impunity, Trump’s victory is an occasion to celebrate. EWG is beyond proud to have earned the trust of tens of millions of supporters, across the country and the political spectrum, including millions of Trump supporters, in our 30-plus years of advocacy. We know they count on EWG’s science and clear-eyed advice to help live healthier lives in a healthier environment, and to avoid exposure to toxic contaminants and pollutants in everyday life. In the years ahead, EWG will redouble, then redouble again, our commitment to serve that purpose and need. 🎃 Not all pumpkin spice is created equal! 🎃 Some pumpkin spice treats contain artificial flavors, sweeteners, and synthetic dyes that may pose health risks. Here are a few things you can do: 1️⃣ Check for artificial flavors. Use caution buying food and drinks whose labels say they contain artificial or natural flavors. These may contain synthetic chemicals that have been linked to health problems. 2️⃣ Be wary of additives. Pumpkin-spice-flavored products may contain additives such as carrageenan and propylene glycol, which have been linked to health harms. 3️⃣ Check for artificial sweeteners. When possible, choose products without aspartame, sucralose or acesulfame potassium. 4️⃣ Steer clear of synthetic dyes for children. Avoid synthetic food colorings like Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Red 40, especially in pumpkin spice treats for children. 5️⃣ Try organic. When possible and affordable, choose products made with organic pumpkin spice flavor. Organic certifications limit the use of synthetic chemicals and flavorings. 6️⃣ DIY pumpkin spice. Pumpkin spice made at home with pure, organic spices is the best approach to enjoying the flavor. Not only do you avoid harmful additives, but you can also adjust the recipe to your taste. The recent McDonald’s E. Coli outbreak has affected at least 75 people across 13 states, one of the cases being fatal. E. Coli has found its way into McDonald’s quarter pounders, causing the item to be pulled from the menu in certain areas.
